Round 5 of the Gold Coast Series

A field of 41 skier competed behind the Correct Craft Ski Nautique on the newly installed slalom course. Conditions were a little difficult with the backwash due to the recent floods. The conditions didn't stop Nichole Walters from posting a new Personal Best and she would have gone further had she not been so excited. With one round to go in the series it is going to be very competitive next month with 5 trips to Moomba on offer to the top 5 placegetters.

Round 3 of the Gold Coast Series

Even though the skiers had to contend with windy conditions and cool temperatures on the Gold Coast this weekend the turnout was good with twelve new skiers. Tyrin Batty showed he is the in form skier so far this series with another good performance. Karl Johnson's PB was good enough to finish in first place with Craig Juede also posting a PB in second place.

Round 2 of the Gold Coast Series

Conditions were as good as it gets on the Gold Coast this weekend with 26C water temp and glass conditions from start to finish. The seasoned competitors had to ski well to match the performances of some of the up and coming skiers, and with the top ten place getters all bettering their PB's the competition was fierce. In training Dave O'Brien has been skiing at 3km over the max speed for his age group so as to make the tournament speed feel easier, well it certainly worked today with Dave scoring a massive 4 under Par and winning Round 2 of the series. In second place newcomer Shane Zendler scored a 2.8 under Par also a new PB. For only the second tournament of the year the standard is amazing with the top 17 skiers scoring within one buoy of their handicap or better.

2007-08 SEASON BEGINS

The Gold Coast Waterski Club hosted its first tournament of the  2007/08 season over the weekend. It might have been the beginning of the season but judging by the number of PB's and top scores by many of the participants it is a good omen for the rest of the season for the Gold Coast group. The top 7 skiers bettered their previous PB's and there was only 3 buoys separating the top 10 skiers. Last seasons 'Best of the Rest' skier, Steve Singleton skiing on a new KD smashed his PB with his first run into the 16m line, and Nichole Walters scored her first top ten finish also with a new PB. Tournament winner Don Shead although in his 50's gave a great exhibition of slam dunk turns on his way to a score of  4 buoys at the 12m line.
